Cineinfinito: The collage films of Arthur Lipsett
Cineinfinito continues its No Man’s Land series at the Doctor Madrazo Cultural Center in Santander (Spain) with a film program devoted to the Canadian experimental filmmaker Arthur Lipsett. This program brings together five seminal works produced between 1961 and 1968: Very Nice, Very Nice (1961), 21-87 (1963), Free Fall (1964), A Trip Down Memory Lane (1965), and Fluxes (1968).
Arthur Lipsett (1936–1986) occupies a singular place in the history of experimental cinema. Working primarily with discarded footage and sound recordings from the National Film Board of Canada, he forged a radically innovative cinematic language grounded in collage film, associative montage, and the dialectical interplay between image and sound. His films transformed found materials into profound reflections on memory, mass media, technology, and the psychological tensions of modern life, while exerting a lasting influence on subsequent generations of filmmakers.
